Organelles of a Cell

Organelles are small structures inside a cell that perform specific functions. Each organelle has its own job, just like organs in the human body.

The most important organelle is the nucleus. The nucleus is the control center of the cell. It stores genetic information and controls all cell activities, such as growth and division.

1. Mitochondria
Mitochondria are the energy stations of the cell. They produce energy that the cell needs to work, move, and stay alive. Because of this, mitochondria are often called the “power plants” of the cell.

2. Ribosomes
Ribosomes help make proteins. They read information from the nucleus and build proteins that the cell needs.

3. Endoplasmic reticulum
The endoplasmic reticulum helps transport substances inside the cell. It also helps make proteins and fats.

4. Golgi apparatus
The Golgi apparatus packages and sends materials to different parts of the cell.

5. Lysosomes
Lysosomes break down waste and clean the cell from unnecessary substances.

All organelles work together to keep the cell alive and functioning. If organelles stop working properly, the cell cannot survive.
